All Things Golf & Real Estate in Naples!

Ryder Cup Starts Tomorrow at Hazeltine! Go USA!

No matter where you play golf in the US, if you are a US citizen, you are most likely rooting for the US team.   I am DEFINITELY one of them!   I love the inclusiveness of Captain Davis Love’s picks — and I hope, fervently, that the team gels as a team and they bring the cup back to US soil.

It is a shame that there have to be such things as Peter Willett’s remarks (he is Danny Willett’s brother) in the UK press that really excoriate the US fans…but you just have to assume that his ignorance and boorishness is showing!

The best way to answer this type of insensitivity is to smash the European team.   Every point counts!   Go USA!

US Ryder Cup Team

Simpson Cup Begins Today at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY!

The Simpson Cup is an annual tournament between teams of 13 injured Servicemen and veterans from the USA and their British counterparts.

The Ryder Cup style tournament showcases the unique position of golf as one of the few sports where players of all skills and abilities can play together on a level playing field, because of the official golf handicap system.

The tournament is named after its founder, John Simpson, the former Senior Vice President of International Management Group (IMG), who has only one fully functioning leg as a result of suffering from polio as a child. During his time at IMG, John managed elite sportsmen such as Sir Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, Greg Norman, Vijay Singh, and Lord Sebastian Coe.

TPC Sawgrass hosted the inaugural Simpson Cup in 2012, while it moved across the Atlantic to Royal Lytham & St Annes the following year, where Team GB successfully defended the Cup. Congressional Country Club played host in 2014, and the Americans won the trophy there for the first time, before relinquishing it on a dramatic final day at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in 2015. This year the event will be staged at Oak Hill Country Club; the scene of the epic Ryder Cup battle from 21 years ago, and the Simpson Cup will no doubt deliver a golfing extravaganza to rival it.

Competitors involved in the Simpson Cup are all members of the On Course Foundation. The Simpson Cup raises awareness and funds for the On Course Foundation, a 501(c)(3) registered organization in the USA and a registered charity in the UK.

SWFL EWGA Qualifies for Nationals!

img_0707This weekend at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, one of the SWFL Executive Womens Golf teams qualified to go to the Nationals in Palm Springs this November — after two grueling days of four ball and singles match play!   Yours truly played, along with 7 other women who faced the challenge of a golf course we did not know, along with players we’ve never competed against — and, because we placed 4th out of 23 teams, we can go represent our chapter in the National Match Play competition (at Rancho Mirage).

The GPS photo here is of the 4th hole at the LPGA International Arthur Hills course, the Legends.   It was a tricky par 4, which played under 300 yards for the ladies, but, it required a very careful layup off the tee to a comfortable yardage to the green, protected by a large hazard area, extremely elevated and crowned green, that was tough to hold.   My partner, Judy Slater, and I won this hole and evened up our match here — so this was a crucial hole for us!

The greens on the Hills course were really nice — not super quick, but true.   The 2nd course we played singles on was the Championship course, by Rees Jones (actually not as difficult), and the greens were not as good — bumpy and slow.  All things considered, we were actually quite happy to get two courses in pretty good condition for the 10th and 11th, considering how much rain everyone got just a couple days ago from Hurricane Hermine.

I won my singles match on the Jones course — tough fought, but had trouble on the greens, and putting is usually one of my strengths!

Great playing — Congratulations SWFL EWGA team Fallen Angels!    On to Palm Springs!
